CONTEXT

This policy is written in the context of the new Gaelic Games Player Pathway key principles:

Club is Core - Club is central to nurturing a love and passion for our games and sustaining communities and lifelong participation

Player Centred - We develop the player and the person

Quality Coaching Experiences - Our coaches create an enjoyable coaching environment to meet needs and welfare of the player.

Connection - Our pathway promotes connection through relationship building opportunities, communication and teamwork. #

Inclusive - Gaelic Games are for All, regardless of abilities, background, beliefs or identities

As Many as Possible for as Long as Possible - Our Pathway prioritises long-term development with a games programme that supports recruitment, development and retention of players

UNDERPINNING PRINCIPLES

The following principles should underpin player selection at juvenile level in the Club:

§  Maximise participation

§  Communication on decisions

§  Selection is ultimately at the discretion of the team manager, subject to the principles and guidelines in this document.

SELECTION GUIDELINES

National Go Games policy

U7 to U10: All participants play in the full game.

U11 and U12 Go Games Leagues: Every player must experience game time in every league match. Unlimited substitutions may be made during a game to optimise participation.

After Go Games (U13 upwards)

Selection to be based on merit, consisting of:

·         Achievement

·         Attendance at training (excl. injury)

·         Positive Attitude

·         Previous performance (form)

·         Skills development

·         Training performance

·         Work ethic

The Club will seek to maximise participation, particularly through the use of development teams. Depending on squad numbers & coaching capacity, the club will endeavour to enter two teams per underage group, the second team being a development team. Full-aged players who may not get enough game time on competition teams will be supported & encouraged to join development teams to maximise their skills development & game time.

OTHER MANDATORY ELEMENT

It is mandatory for all coaches, other Club personnel and parents to have read and be aware of the Camogie Association Code of Behaviour.
